The Host's notes

AI reading of the rant

Pacing

4.5
One of the main set pieces was a simple LED-lit door that was spun to theatrical effect, perfectly pacing the show.

Emotional payoff

4.5
The effect was reserved until the end of the second act, preserving its artistic integrity. Had it been used throughout the entire show, it would not have carried the same impact.

Spectacle

4.5
Those same impromptu microphones — dragged offstage mid-performance — were laid out in a circle around the performer. With perfect overhead lighting illuminating each mic as the voices continued speaking, the metallic glimmer on the mics under the lights completed the effect. It was simple, restrained, and incredibly effective stagecraft.

Music & score

5.0
What stood out to me most was how tight the sound design was, and how perfectly the music set motion to the stage... I stood outside the stage door afterward not to grovel at Jack, but rather at Giles and John Patrick Elliott, who composed and executed this work of art.

Story & writing

4.0
As immersed as I was in the plot, I couldn't help but become equally absorbed in the direction, lighting, and sound design that elevated what was already a stellar performance by Jack Holden.
