Joe Landry's adaptation frames the whole evening as a 1940s radio broadcast: you're the studio audience, a small company of actors voices every soul in Bedford Falls, and a foley artist makes the sound effects live in front of you. Andrew Rannells and Megan Hilty lead, with Tituss Burgess, Harry Hamlin, and Lisa Rinna filling out most of the town between them. Jerry Zaks directs. Ninety minutes, no intermission.

The radio-play format is the thing to weigh before you buy. It rewards people who love the source material and are curious how a handful of performers conjure an entire world through voice and craft. This production hasn't opened yet and we haven't reviewed it, so a verdict will have to wait — but Landry's script has been a regional holiday staple for thirty years, and this is its first time on Broadway.

Curious about the room, the cast, or how it stacks up against what else is running this season?

THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, SOMETHING WONDERFUL IS COMING TO BROADWAY Take your seat in the live studio audience of a 1940s radio broadcast, high above New York City at Christmastime, where a company of actors has gathered to perform one of the most beloved holiday stories ever told. Adapted for the stage with the warmth of a bygone era by Joe Landry and directed by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks, this joyful production brings the town of Bedford Falls to life, with the actors playing dozens of characters, a foley artist creating sound effects live onstage, and, of course, some carols along the way. It’s the holiday classic you know by heart, on Broadway for the first time ever.
